Linnvale & Drumry Community Council

Community Councils

I’m often asked what are Community Councils and why should we support them, Let me explain why they are important and indeed why they need your support.

In West Dunbartonshire, there are 11 C C’s active from a total number of 17 allowable for our population. If your Post Code is G81 2** your C C is Linnvale & Drumry Community Council.

You will also have come across your C C at work.

Over the years we have been influencing what happens in the area, but first, let me outline what a CC is all about.

Community Councils are a statutory body whose members are ordinary citizens elected every few years to represent the Tenants and Residents in their area. They usually have 10/12 members to carry out the duties of the C C but all residents within an area can attend their meeting and have their views heard. They are funded by the local government and if required they can call upon any other expert outside their area for assistance if required.

Any tenant or resident over the age of 16 is eligible to stand as a C C. Training is available for any Councillor who requires it.

The C C is informed of all Planning Applications put to WDC and has a right to be heard at any Planning Committee Meeting in order to object to or in fact agree to the application. This indeed can take up much of its time.

LDCC carries out Monthly Meetings where the views of our Public are sought and acted upon by a majority vote. The latest Covid restrictions have meant that these meetings have been carried out via Zoom. Details are published on our Facebook Page “Linnvale and Drumy Community Council”. Please do join in.

We usually have the Police attend to give the latest crime figures for the district, we also normally have a local Councillor attend to inform us about any future events we should be aware of. Thank you for this opportunity to address everyone and perhaps in future editions where we can discuss other events in the area.
